Panasonic TV control
MyURemote supports several Panasonic TV platforms over the local network. Depending on the model and generation, Panasonic TVs may use classic VIERA NRC, encrypted NRC, or the Vestel SmartCenter protocol.
Overview
Panasonic has used different hardware and software platforms across its TV ranges. Because of this, not every Panasonic TV uses the same IP control protocol.
MyURemote currently supports three Panasonic control profiles:
Panasonic TV profiles
1) Panasonic VIERA – classic NRC
- Protocol: Panasonic Network Remote Control (NRC)
- Transport: HTTP / SOAP
- Default port: 55000
- Technology in MyURemote: IP
Many older VIERA models support Panasonic NRC directly over the network. Commands are sent as remote-control key events using SOAP requests. These TVs normally do not require PIN pairing.
2) Panasonic VIERA / My Home Screen 6+ – encrypted NRC
- Protocol: Panasonic NRC (encrypted)
- Transport: HTTP + AES/HMAC encrypted payload
- Default port: 55000
- PIN pairing required
- Status: experimental / under development
Newer My Home Screen models use an encrypted version of Panasonic NRC. Before commands can be sent, the TV must be paired using a PIN displayed on the TV.
3) Panasonic Vestel platform
- Protocol: Vestel SmartCenter
- Transport: HTTP
- Default port: 56789
- Technology in MyURemote: IP
- No PIN pairing required
Some Panasonic TVs are based on the Vestel platform and do not use Panasonic NRC. These models are controlled through the Vestel SmartCenter interface instead.
This profile has been tested successfully with the Panasonic TX-49GX623E.
Which profile should I use?
- If your Panasonic TV supports classic Network Remote Control on port 55000, select the classic VIERA profile.
- If the TV requires a PIN before network remote commands can be used, select the VIERA / My Home Screen 6+ profile.
- If the TV is based on the Vestel platform, select the Vestel profile. These TVs normally use port 56789.
Network connection
The TV and the device running MyURemote must be connected to the same local network. A wired Ethernet connection or normal Wi-Fi connection can be used.
- Classic VIERA NRC: TCP port 55000
- Encrypted NRC: TCP port 55000
- Vestel SmartCenter: TCP port 56789
First-time use
During initial setup the TV should be powered on and connected to the network.
Enter the TV’s IP address in MyURemote and select the correct Panasonic profile.
Only encrypted NRC models require PIN pairing. Classic VIERA and Vestel models do not normally require pairing.
PIN pairing – encrypted NRC models
If the Panasonic model requires encrypted NRC, MyURemote displays a pairing interface.
- Click Show PIN on TV
- A PIN appears on the TV
- Enter the PIN in MyURemote
- Click Pair
After successful pairing, the required authentication information is stored so the TV does not need to be paired again during normal use.
Vestel-based Panasonic TVs
Some Panasonic models use Vestel electronics and software instead of Panasonic’s traditional VIERA NRC platform.
These TVs use the Vestel SmartCenter control interface on TCP port 56789.
MyURemote can send standard remote-control functions such as:
- Power
- Volume Up / Down
- Mute
- Channel Up / Down
- Navigation Up / Down / Left / Right
- OK
- Back
- Home / Menu
- Source / Input
Power On / Wake-on-LAN
Network power-on behaviour differs between Panasonic models.
- Power Off can normally be sent through the active control protocol.
- Power On may require Wake-on-LAN depending on the TV.
- The TV must keep its network interface active while in standby for Wake-on-LAN to work.
Troubleshooting
TV does not respond
- Verify the configured IP address
- Make sure the TV and MyURemote are on the same LAN
- Check that guest Wi-Fi or client isolation is not enabled
- Verify that the correct Panasonic profile is selected
Port 55000 does not respond
This does not necessarily mean the Panasonic TV cannot be controlled. Some Panasonic models use the Vestel SmartCenter platform instead.
Try the Panasonic Vestel profile using port 56789.
Pairing fails
- Pairing is only required for encrypted NRC models
- Click Show PIN on TV before entering the PIN
- Use the PIN currently displayed on the TV
Panasonic TV Remote app cannot find the TV
This can occur on Panasonic models based on a different platform such as Vestel. Try the MyURemote Vestel profile instead.
Supported Panasonic platforms
- Panasonic VIERA TVs supporting classic NRC over IP
- Panasonic My Home Screen models using encrypted NRC (experimental)
- Panasonic TVs based on the Vestel SmartCenter platform
