How to configure IP-controlled devices
Most modern audio/video and smart-home devices can be controlled directly over your local network. In MyURemote this means no IR blaster, no RS232 wiring and no Global Caché controller is required — only a working network connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
1. What are IP-controlled devices?
An IP-controlled device is a device that accepts control commands over the network. Depending on the device, MyURemote may communicate using:
- TCP/IP (raw socket communication)
- HTTP (REST / web requests)
- WebSockets (persistent two-way communication)
You do not need to select the protocol yourself. MyURemote uses the device definition to send the correct commands in the correct format.
2. No controller required
For IP-controlled devices, MyURemote talks directly to the device over the network. There is no need for hardware that converts network commands to infrared or serial (RS232).
- No Global Caché required
- No IR emitter / IR gateway required
- No serial converters required
The only requirement is that the device is reachable on your local network and that it supports a compatible IP control interface.
3. Automatic discovery & “prepared” devices
MyURemote can automatically discover many devices on your network using standard discovery mechanisms (such as DLNA/SSDP and vendor-specific discovery methods).
Devices that are validated and supported by MyURemote are “prepared” once they have been used successfully in a configuration: the correct protocol and port settings are automatically available so you can start using the device immediately by entering (or selecting) the right IP address.
In practice this means you often don’t need to research ports or connection details — MyURemote already knows them for supported devices.
4. If your device is not detected automatically
Not all devices announce themselves on the network. If a device is not discovered automatically, you may need to find its IP address manually.
Option A: check the device’s network settings
Many TVs, receivers and smart devices show their IP address in a Network / About / Status menu.
Option B: scan your network
You can use a network scanning tool to identify devices on your LAN. A popular option is Fing (iOS/Android).
Another common alternative is checking your router’s DHCP / connected devices list.
5. Next: configure your AV setup in MyURemote
This page only explains IP connectivity and discovery. For building a complete AV setup (zones, inputs, tabs, macros and a user interface), follow the general configuration guide:
→ Open: How to configure MyURemote for Audio/Video control
If you want to see which devices can be controlled over IP, check the Compatibility section: Compatibility.
6. Supported IP-controlled devices (optional)
MyURemote can expose a curated list of supported IP-controlled devices. This section can later be expanded with a filtered device list from the public database.
